Winter Wonderland 2013

Esther & Fiona running the White Stone Studio stall at Winter Wonderland Christmas Market 2013

Huddersfield Christian Fellowship have successfully hosted their Winter Wonderland Christmas Market three years running and I look forward to it every year! But this year was extra special for me. It was the first public appearance of White Stone Studios – the Graphic Design business I developed and set up in my final year at University.

I was advised to test the waters to see if my products would be desirable and sell-able, so what better opportunity than to do it at my own church, at an event that brought in approximately 4000 visitors and when everyone is feeling festive! I was allocated two trestle tables and two chairs and I chose to be in the main auditorium.

Thanks to my husband and a good friend we set up the stall and waited for the crowd to come. There were many compliments on the display and products. We even had a few sales which was very encouraging! I think three framed prints went under peoples Christmas Trees too!

It is always a fabulous event and if you are looking for a great place to set up a stall Winter Wonderland (at Cathedral House, Huddersfield) is definitely worth looking into. They usually release their stall holder information/open booking beginning of November. Keep a look out on the HCF website.

HCF Ladies Day 2013

For the past three years I have had the privilege of branding and designing various publicity items for the Ladies Days at my church, Huddersfield Christian Fellowship (HCF). Working with a brief/outline from another member of HCF (also called Esther) we worked together to bring the design of the day together through the signage/programmes/power point slides/notices and the food hall table settings etc.

For the first two years I was given a brief written by the other Esther, which included a visual to work with (FYI Esther is a designers dream when it comes to writing briefs). I then used this to influence the branding. These two years followed my usual “flat graphic style” and used bright colours to bring personality. However, the most recent brief was more open and I proposed a concept that took me out of my comfort zone. This was more photography based and required a bit of team work. So using a friend’s handwriting (which I’ve admired for years) we got creative and produced a main image to run across the branding elements without it being too girly!

Around 150-200 ladies have attended each Ladies Day since 2010 and there have been many compliments across the three years regarding the designs – but I especially enjoyed the latest one.

I feel honoured to have been asked to do the designs again. It was fun to break away from the “flat graphics” for a change and have the idea accepted and complimented across the day.

Personalised Birthday Invitations

A friend approached me a few months ago and asked me to design and print some invitations for their daughters 1st birthday. The brief was “not too girly” but I was allowed to use pink. I decided to keep the design simple and use softer colours than I usually do. I also designed them matching “Thank You” cards to send out after the party. This was a real boost and honour to see my invites on peoples fireplaces and fridges again! It also turned out that the invites matched the birthday cake!

MFG Youth Conference – Programme Designs

Ministers Fellowship Global (MFG) is a Christian organisation which encourages leaders of many non-denominational churches across the globe to walk together, learn together and most of all build relationships. MFG holds a leaders conference each year and has also been hosting conferences for their youth groups to meet together also. You can see their website for more information if you like:

I have had the privilege to be involved and part of them for the last 5 years (Reutlingen – Germany, Huddersfield – England, Zevenhuizen – Netherlands). The youth conferences have also now become an annual event which we always look forward to.

I have also had the privilege to have been asked to design the conference programme for the last 2 youth conferences. Unfortunately we arrived too late this time for me to take a photograph of them all neatly set out and crisply printed before they were given to people and they got a little wrinkled and bent. But that’s what they are for. They served their purpose and the MFG planning team was happy with what I had produced.

The images below show the first programme I designed for the youth conference for 2012 before the recent name change (from Ministers Fellowship Europe to Ministers Fellowship Global).  I was given the logo images and original copy, then left to decide upon the layout and design by myself.

Trip to the Netherlands 2013

I had the privilege of being part of a youth trip to the Netherlands to a church called Evangelische gemeente De Levensbron in Zevenhuizen. It was like being at home. Wonderful church full of so many wonderful people (if you are looking for a church near there then I recommend it highly).

Anyway we had so much fun and I wanted to show you a few photos from the lovely places we visited and some of the yummy snacks that I tasted.
